Virgo covers up

By Kevin Jackson Observer Writer

Singer Romain Virgo continues a busy recording schedule with a cover of British singer Sam Smith’s hit single Stay With Me. It was produced by Niko Browne for Lifeline Music.

Virgo has another cover — Michael Bolton’s Soul Provider — which is making the rounds. He has also released Money Target, Encore and General.

“General talks about loyalty and friendship. I have always wanted to write a song about this and so far it’s been getting a lot of airplay,” he told this column.

Virgo is scheduled to kick off his European tour today at the Wolf Roots Rock Reggae Festival in Germany. He also has dates in The Netherlands, Switzerland, Norway, Austria, Italy and Spain.

Chart Updates
Chronixx’s Dread & Terrible EP is no longer number one on the Billboard Reggae Album chart. It slips to number five and has been replaced in the top spot by the compilation, Summertime Reggae.

Over on Billboard’s Reggae Digital Songs chart, Canadian band MAGIC! is number one with Rude. The group also holds the number two spot with Let Your Hair Down.

Sweet sounds from Delly
Veteran deejay Delly Ranx’s fifth studio album, Sweet Reggae, was released on July 22.

The 14-track set includes Silly Billy and the title track which both did well locally and in the Eastern Caribbean.

“Working on this album was life- changing. What I’ve experienced on this project especially working with V I S Crew was an eye-opener for me,” said Delly Ranx. “We share the same vision for my career and music. It’s a pleasure to work with people who want to use music to bring about positive change.”

Delly Ranx is best known for songs such as Headache, Head of The House, Work Roun Dem, Pon Di Corner and What a Gal Can Wine. He anticipates even more success with his latest release.

“‘I think it’s a masterpiece,” he said.
