Reggae got another international boost on Tuesday when Stephen ‘Ragga’ Marley made a special appearance on BET’s 106 & Park. The eight-time Grammy-winning artiste made a brief showing on the evening show to premiere the music video for one of his most recent tracks, Rock Stone.
The single is one of several tracks from his upcoming album, Revelation Part II: The Fruit of Life. The song also features fellow reggae artistes Capleton and Sizzla Kalonji and shows Marley exploring his other talents as he spits rhymes in a rap manner.
Marley described his latest album as eclectic. “Part 2 merges different genres from hip hop to reggae.” Speaking to the hosts, Lil Bow Wow and Erika Mena, Marley said music was his life. “That’s all we know. We make music,” he said. He also sought to explain the concept behind the video, which shows images of slavery as well as snippets of modern-day struggles. “All of us come from that place, that struggle where rock stone was our pillow,” he said. Also making a cameo appearance in the video is his son, Jo Mersa Marley.
Stephen, who is on tour with Slightly Stoopid, took time out to introduce the video before heading to the Pocahontas State Park in Richmond, Virginia, yesterday.

In recent weeks, several of Jamaica’s top musicians have been featured on television programmes across America.
