MichelleThis year was the pits for reggae music. Too many complaints from promoters, music lovers, radio, tv, print media here and abroad regarding
unprofessionalism in reggae.
Once again, I air my concerns and feel that this business need to be regulated. Something needs to be done urgently. If this business does not pull up its boots straps reggae will fall fully into the hand of others.
Take a look at the Billboard Reggae Chart it is topped mostly by non-Jamaican reggae acts. Many factors come to play for the lackluster – such as – the music being produced is not of substance, artists are not hiring the right teams, artists not reinvesting in their career, our very own do not give the support needed in purchasing etc.
If one was to look at the blogs, fb pages of non-Jamaican reggae artists/bands one will see:
That they reinvest in the career (money)
They are organized
They have teams
They work as a movement with a mission
Their goal is dominance
They will fight to be number one
They are loyal to their fans
They have a social media presence
I can go on and on but I know the bellyaching will still continue.
Since the music has hit rock bottom there is only one way now and that is up – let us hope and pray it will rise.
