Jah Cure Leads Strong Line-Up Of Western Natives On Sumfest

Jah Cure is set to lead a strong delegation of artistes hailing from western Jamaica, who will ignite Reggae Sumfest, slated for July 13-19.

Jah Cure appears on International Night I, Friday, July 18 along with International hip hop and R&B artistes Wiz Khalifa and Jason Derulo. Nature, Shuga, Ryme Minister and Prissy G, also hailing from western Jamaica, will add their brand of excitement and music to the show.

Jah Cure is currently enjoying massive support from his recent releases, Wake Up and his cover of John Legend’s All of Me. Both songs have enjoyed steady rotation and will be enjoyed by fans along with mega hits That Girl, Love Is and Unconditional Love.

The reggae crooner is looking forward to a return performance in his home town. Executive director for Reggae Sumfest, Johnny Gourzong, commented, “after Jah Cure’s performance on the festival last year we had to bring him back this year. He performed in the early hours then and really had the audience enjoying themselves. I am excited to see what his performance will be like come Friday, July 18.”

Nature is also set to grace the stage in what should be an emotional but fulfilling performance, as he seeks to charm patrons at Catherine Hall. Fans can expect hits from his growing catalogue, including Revolution, World Peace and Trying Man.

Rounding out the list of acts hailing from western Jamaica is the effervescent Shuga, who started out as a backup singer for artistes like Tanya Stephens and Da’ville before going solo. She also appears on International Night I.

Rising Star

Voted the Digicel Rising Star of 2009, Shuga’s natural delivery has earned her much love from local and international audiences throughout her career. She is expected to deliver favourites such as My Soul To Jah, Lie To Me and her recent single, Ebony, when she graces the Reggae Sumfest stage.

On Saturday, July 19, International National Night II, the Montego Bay Boys and Girls Band and reggae-pop artiste Prissy G, will add magic to the Catherine Hall stage. Prissy G, known for the dancehall-pop fusion hit single, Yellow Tape, along with songs like What’s Life and Rock My Boat, is anticipating great chemistry from patrons at the event.

Dancehall Night will see the hard-hitting lyricist, Ryme Minister, carving out his place among some of the biggest names in dancehall music. The young prodigy, who has been getting rave reviews for his unique style of delivery, will make his Reggae Sumfest debut on Thursday, July 17, and is expected to deliver hits such as Searching for My Rights, Push Forward, One Umbrella and the much-touted Kill and Get Weh, featuring Mavado.

Montego Bay has been home to the festival since its inception in 1993. The week of activities will kick off on Sunday, July 13 with the Ravin’ in Rio beach party at Aquasol Theme Park, and will feature music by ZJ Sparks, DJ Nicco, DJ Crazy Neil and Coppershot, featuring Cutty and Marc Chin.
