SINGER Tessanne Chin gave a command performance on International Night II of Reggae Sumfest, which closed at the Catherine Hall Entertainment Complex in Montego Bay yesterday morning.
Dressed in a black suit, complemented by a white blouse, the Voice 2013 winner energised the weary crowd with even before she sang a note. As her name was announced, there was a mad rush to the stage by patrons.
“It’s so good to be home. I’ve been away for a long time. I have a show for you tonight,” she said, before proceeding to do just that.
Chin opened with Try, the song that started her incredible journey on the Voice.
Among her other selections were Tumbling Down, Count On My Love, Redemption Song, Every Little Thing Reminds Me of You, and Heaven, which she said will be the second single to be released from her Count On My Love album.
Another impressive performer was American artiste Future. Decked out in his ‘Jamaica’ T-shirt, he was in total command as he delivered songs such as Love, Racks, Honest, Bugatti and Top Out.
It was a sing-a-long performance, with younger patrons keeping pace with Future’s offerings.
Sanchez, who has not performed on the Sumfest stage for some time, stormed off stage minutes into his set, frustrated with the sound. After a mad rush by technicians who made the necessary adjustments, he returned.
“I apologise. Right now, steam a blow through mi ears,” he said about his abrupt departure. The fans were in a forgiving mood and he belted out lover’s rock staples including Fall In Love, I’ll Give You Love, Lonely and Dis The Man.
The stage area had to be extended for Sean Paul, who had not performed at Sumfest in 10 years. With dancing girls and fireworks, he reconnected with fans during his 45-minute stay.
Closing act Freddie McGregor was honoured by Summerfest Productions for 50 years in the music industry. The organisers hailed him as a “stalwart in the Jamaica music industry and a multifaceted recording artiste”.
He performed his hits including To Be Poor Is A Crime, Push Come To Shove and So I Will Wait For You, as several patrons exited.
Earlier, performances came from Prissy G, Zvuloon Dub System and The Wizzard.
