Presenting Gussie Clarke

By Jamaica Observer

GUSSIE Presenting The Right Tracks, a multi-song collection of producer Gussie Clarke’s work in the 1970s, is scheduled for release on July 22.

It will be distributed by VP Records through its reissue subsidiary, 17 North Parade.

The 40-track set contains songs by cutting-edge roots acts like Augustus Pablo, IRoy and Horace Andy as well as singers Jacob Miller, Gregory Isaacs, Dennis Brown and Leroy Sibbles.

There are also songs from founding Skatalites saxophonist Tommy McCook.

An 11-track vinyl version of Gussie Presenting the Right Tracks will be simultaneously released. Gussie Presenting The Right Sevens, a collection of seven-inch versions of songs by The Mighty Diamonds, Roman Stewart and Mikey Dread, among others, is scheduled to be out on August 22.

Clarke began his career while still a student at Kingston College in the early 1970s. One of his first big productions was the album, Screaming Target, by deejay Big Youth.

He later had hits with Brown (Foundation), The Mighty Diamonds (Pass The Kutchie) and Rumours by Isaacs.

His Music Works label flourished in the 1990s with a number of dancehall songs from Shabba Ranks, Deborahe Glasgow and Home T.
